October 26, 2007

Our baby girl is 1 day old today! So far she's doing really well and we're just being optimistic that it will continue. She is meant to be here and she will be healthy. I get heartsick when I think about leaving her in the hospital for 3 months but B and I have decided that in the grand scheme of things, 3 months is a really short time. Whatever it takes to make and keep her healthy.
We're going to take pics of her weekly to track her progress and see how she's improving. We'll be at the hospital twice per day to see her, hoping to spend about 7 hours per day with her. She still sleeps a lot so we don't want to interrupt that either and I want to make sure she keeps warm and protected for now. Tomorrow she has a heart ultrasound to check that a valve in her heart closed. Typically, newborns do it on their own but some preemies need a little help. We're praying and believing that it already closed and that she will continue to thrive. The doctors and nurses know all three of us by name already and we're confident that she is in the best hands.
Today's pic will be her first and then we'll do another one next week.

Sydney already trying to pull the protective gear from her eyes! See, she is already a fighter, and she will pull through this. God has his hand on her and this is indeed a miracle unfolding.
God bless and keep you guys.

You have a precious daughter! I saw your comment on Lincoln Walsh's blog and came to check out your sweet little girl. My youngest, Dakota, was born at 25wks and spent 225 days in the NICU. Coincidentally, she's currently in the hospital with RSV... I hope your sweet Sydney gets better quickly.
